Keystone Legal – Fees

 

 

At Keystone Legal, we believe clients deserve clear and predictable information about legal fees. Our fee structure is designed to provide transparency so you know what to expect.

 

 

 

 

Initial Consultation

 

 

We offer a 45-minute initial consultation for $200.

Payment for this consultation may be made using the methods supported through our online booking system, including:

 

  • Debit

  • Credit card

  • PayPal

  • Apple Pay / Google Pay

 

 

At the end of the consultation, the lawyer will provide a more accurate estimate of expected fees based on the nature of your matter.

 

 

 

 

Hourly Services

 

 

Certain services are billed at an hourly rate of $300 per hour, and require a retainer, which is held in trust and billed as work progresses.

 

Any unused portion of the retainer will be returned at the conclusion of the matter.

 

Hourly billing is used where the scope or complexity of the work cannot reasonably be determined in advance.

 

 

 

 

Flat-Fee Services

 

 

For defined and predictable services, we offer flat-fee arrangements so you know the full cost upfront.

 

These include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Simple wills

  • Independent legal advice (ILA)

  • Powers of attorney

  • Personal directives

  • Uncontested or desk-order divorces

  • Straightforward probate applications

 

 

The applicable flat fee for your specific matter will be confirmed at the end of the consultation, once the lawyer has reviewed your circumstances.

 

 

 

 

Additional Billing Details

 

 

For transparency, please note:

 

  • GST is applied to all legal fees and disbursements

  • Disbursements include third-party costs such as court filing fees, courier services, land title searches, and document registration fees

  • Credit-card payments for ongoing legal services incur a 2.4% processing fee

  • A $25 identity-verification fee is required prior to the first appointment — completed through Treefort, which we use to meet the Law Society’s client-verification requirements

  • A $225 file opening fee and a $100 file closing fee apply to all matters; the file opening fee reflects the administrative process involved in setting up your file, including compliance checks, trust account setup, and document preparation
